Application
Shadowclad® is a 12mm thick exterior plywood sheet wall cladding, which provides a 1200mm cover width and comes in sheet lengths of 2440mm, 2745mm and 3050mm.Shadowclad® is available with two bandsawn face options – Shadowclad® texture (suited to optional exteriors battens for a board and batten appearance) and Shadowclad® groove featuring vertical grooves at 150mm centres.
Shadowclad® is available natural for a stained finish or Climate primed if a paint finish is desired.Shadowclad® is H3 LOSP treated and marked in accordance with the treatment Standard AS/NZS1604.3: 2002 “Specification for Preservative Treatment, Part 3: Plywood” to meet the durability requirements outlined in NZS3602: 2003. LOSP is a light organic solvent preservative containing a fungicide (TBTN) for rot protection, a mouldicide for short term mould resistance prior to coating, an insecticide and a wax water repellent to stabilise the surface fibres for painting. H3 LOSP treated plywood in accordance with AS/NZS1604.3: 2002 is comparable to H3.1 and similarly, H3 CCA is comparable to H3.2.
Shadowclad® can be used for structural bracing, as required by NZS3604: 1999, when direct-fixed to framing or installed over 20mm cavity battens (refer Ply Bracing Manual).
Installation
There are two methods of installing Shadowclad®.
- Direct-fixed, where the cladding is fixed directly to the timber or steel frame. Internal Moisture’ requires a thermal break where steel studs are used. Expanded polystyrene strips, 12mm minimum thick and fixed directly behind the Shadowclad® provide and effective thermal break.
- Drained and well-ventilated cavity, where the cladding is fixed onto timber battens fixed over the timber frame.
Structural Bracing
When direct-fixed to framing or installed over 20mm cavity battens, Shadowclad® can be used as a bracing element.
- Plywood claddings used as wall bracing must be:
- Painted with an acrylic latex paint system that is maintained through the life of the building.
- Fixed with stainless steel annular grooved nails or Plyfast screws.
